The official results are in from the Evergreen Lake Ice Fishing Tournament and the winning fish was, well, in the size department, a bit of an underachiever.
Let’s put it this way; it comes in at a whopping 449 grams. Metric measurement sounds better because the winning fish is actually 0.99 of a pound.
Yes, under a pound. And even at less than a pound, the svelte trout exceeded on an individual basis, ALL OTHER FISH Caught.
This is the first annual Lake House fishing tournament run by the Evergreen Park and Recreation District and the competition is very motivating to avoid other Saturday activities at home.
24 people venture out somewhere on the ice to find the Moby Dick of the rainbow trout. It’s not exactly a feeding frenzy on the frozen pond, but the bite is on. Anglers reeled in a total of 88 fish.
The winner, whose name is being withheld pending notification of the person who needs to find the identity of the man in the red coat, stood proudly for the weigh-in as lake crews carted the scales around to keep it legit.
Then, after the correct decision, the winner held a proud smile for the camera and managed to show off a catch almost bigger than something labeled Gorton’s and covered in breading.
Fish forward young man. It looks bigger that way.
