WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) – Nothing quite kicks off spring break like a family fishing trip, mix that with some friendly competition and you get the annual Kids’ Fishing Rodeo.
The fishing rodeo is a free competition for kids two to 16, with three different age groups competing for prizes.
It was a little chilly at Lake Plum in the morning, but many families still showed up.
“We have fishing poles, tackle boxes for the kids to win, and we have three different age groups and they can catch trout or other species, so we have prizes for a lot of different kids here now,” said Wichita Falls Recreation Division Coordinator, Cindy Cummings.
The city provided bait and even some fishing poles to those who attended, so you don’t need to have your own fishing gear to enjoy the event.
The lake was stocked with fish earlier in the week to ensure plenty of catches.
Cummings said the recreation division is all about creating fun events for everyone to enjoy.
“We want everybody to have fun, that is our first goal always. We’re entertainment and we want to get a lot of numbers, but the most important thing is for everyone to have fun,” Cummings said.
The rodeo is not their only event, the recreation division has events throughout the year.
Next weekend, the department will hold an Easter egg hunt at the sports complex.
“We have a lot of things going on, we also have movies next weekend at the recreation center, so we’re trying to do some things for the kids while they’re on break and we like doing things for everyone all the time anyway,” Cummings said.
