It was a busy therapy cat day visiting the assisted living home this week. There were many people in the large room where I was visiting. Some TV instructor does chair yoga, and about 3 of the couple dozen residents follow along. That included one of the first women I visited. He was sweet and had a Bible sitting next to him. He took a long break to give me pets.
Another of the women practicing yoga moves was a newer resident we met. He was sitting next to a girl who liked to high five me so I got to see them both. The girl wanted to high five me on her lap. My human let her know that I’m not the greatest lap kitty (although I love to high five!). But I was good about being on his lap for a little while.
I also visited the nonverbal woman with heavy hands who loved me very much. Often, we were followed by a staff member taking pictures of me with the residents. They love having pictures with me.
Because this home is for residents suffering from dementia and Alzheimer’s, many of the residents are not really there, and sometimes my person sees that those, get worse over time. We often visit a woman who loves to see me cry. But he’s slowly drifting away, and on this visit when he saw me, he just looked at me blankly. My man also noticed a few other regulars who weren’t as alert as usual. And that was difficult for him.
Being a kitty, that kind of thing doesn’t matter to me. I just don’t care if anyone needs kitty energy or not. And I’m always happy to offer some of those.
Here are some of my other visits to this particular assisted living facility:
