The following was submitted by Heidi Blood, Animal Control Officer and President/Founder of the Waldo County Pet Food Pantry. The pantry needs public support.
We’ve been serving the Waldo County pet community since 2013. And every time we’ve been in a crunch, the community has stepped up and given us all the support they can! People donated food and supplies, volunteered, advertised, shared on social media, you name it! This community is GIVEN!
Now at the rising cost of, well, everything we find ourselves in uncertain times.
We survived the Covid pandemic, we survived the ever-increasing costs, we survived the demand for our services growing stronger. We spend nearly $2,000 monthly just to stay afloat and keep the area pets healthy and well fed.
The majority of our funds go directly to pet food purchases. We cannot continue without a real long term plan/goal and of course, funding.
We provide twice monthly food distribution/pet supply dates, Home Delivery for Veterans and seniors, two rabies clinics a year; we offer quality flea/tick prevention, treats, toys, bedding and we have a spay/neuter program. We are a necessary resource for pet owners, and the need is only growing.
We have recently made changes to our social media Facebook page and we are asking everyone and their friends, family to become our subscribers. It’s only 99 cents a month. And, if they send us their email address, we’ll add them to our online monthly newsletter, which is full of pet food pantry happenings and other helpful pet information.
Of the nearly 40,000 people living in Waldo County; if only 5% (2,000) of those people commit to a 99-cent subscription to us each month, we can continue.
And with the ability to continue, we have a real opportunity to make life-saving changes for Waldo County’s pets. If 10% (4,000) commit to 99 cents a month, we can grow. And we will grow!
We also have a Paypal giving fund, Venmo and Facebook pay for tax deductible donations.
We are 501c3 with the IRS and tax-exempt with the State of Maine. Checks can be mailed to our location at 34 Field Street Belfast, Maine 04915
Did you know that Waldo County is the only county in Maine without an animal shelter? Heartbreaking! While there are many amazing pet programs and other non-profits throughout Waldo County, the need is still there!
