BOSTON — Lintbells, a pet supplement manufacturer, has announced that it has received B Corp status, attesting to its social and environmental performance. According to Lintbells, it is one of 11 pet care companies worldwide to be awarded B Corp certification.
Lintbells is best known for its supplement brand YuMOVE, which specializes in veterinary joint products for dogs. YuMOVE supplements support more than two million dogs annually, according to the brand.
B Corp certification is provided by B Lab, an international nonprofit that aims to change the way businesses operate, moving away from a traditional financial focus to one that supports employees, suppliers, customers and communities . B Corp businesses seek to address society’s most pressing challenges, according to B Lab, including social and environmental issues.
To receive B Corp certification, companies are measured on their management, workers, community, environment and customers.
“From the beginning, Lintbells was founded on principles that reflected the core social and environmental values of its founders,” said Warren Rickard, general manager, Lintbells. “Since then, those values have informed our approach to environmental, social, and governance factors that are at the forefront of our decision-making, driving sustainable growth and ethical business practices.
“Our B Corp certification is proof of our commitment to continue to promote these values and deliver not only a profitable business, but ensure we meet the needs and expectations of all stakeholders,” he added.
Lintbells, led by Chief Executive Officer Fiona Hope, has achieved certification for its ESG management. The company has built sustainability into its business strategy and recently appointed a new chief sustainability officer, Kerry Doble, to help further advance its ESG initiatives.
Additionally, the company is embarking on a Net Zero journey to reduce Scope 1, 2 and 3 carbon emissions throughout its supply chain. This involves ingredient sourcing, where Lintbells will adhere to deforestation-, GM- and palm oil-free specifications. The company has determined that nearly half of its ingredients are sustainably sourced and conform to standards set by the Rainforest Alliance, Proterra and others. Lintbells aims to ensure that all ingredients are fully sustainable by 2027.
Lintbells’ ESG efforts are carried over to its YuMOVE brand. The brand is a leader in sustainable packaging, according to Lintbells, with achievements in recyclable pouches, lightweight secondary packaging, reduction of raw materials used for packaging, and 85% recycled labels. Lintbells is also planning a rollout of its rePurpose Scheme, where the company will recover as much plastic as it distributes to ensure plastic neutrality. The company is also exploring other sustainable packaging solutions to achieve 100% recyclable packaging by 2025.
Along with all of its environmental efforts, Lintbells focuses on social impact, supporting its employees through specific programs, including life coaching, assistance for neurodiverse employees, and more. It also facilitates volunteering opportunities for its workers.
