“Between now and opening day of trout season, we will be stocking 3.2 million trout across the state of Pennsylvania – Golden trout, Rainbow Trout, Brook Trout, and Brown Trout,” said Mark Sweppenhiser, a waterways conservation officer . “Go out and get one.”
Volunteers are particularly surprised by the work that goes into preparing for trout season.
“This is actually my first time stocking trout so it’s exciting just to see the whole process,” Aaron Shelton said. “This year in particular, they seem to have a very large batch of trout so there are some really good sized fish that hit the water and look very happy.”
This year, the PFBC will stock more than 3 million adult trout in nearly 700 streams and 129 lakes open to public fishing. This includes more than 2 million Rainbow Trout, 702,000 Brown Trout, and 132,000 Brook Trout.

The opening day of the trout season is set for April 6.
