NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — When choosing a license plate, the design options are almost endless. Now, pet lovers can have a new look to choose from.
The Nashville Humane Association can obtain its own specialty license plate. But first, a thousand people have to sign up and say they want one. Proceeds from those sales will benefit Davidson County pet families going through tough times.
“We still have a way to go. We’re about halfway there, we’re not there yet,” said Taylor Spreitler, the association’s community engagement coordinator. “We need a little more support. We’re just hoping too much.”
The money raised from the thirty-five dollar specialty license plate will go directly to the Darcy Lashinsky Memorial Pet Food Bank located on Osceola Avenue. It currently helps families in Davidson County in difficult financial situations.
“Last year alone, we distributed 16 tons of pet food to our community,” Spreitler said. “People can come by and get supplemental pet food for their pets. Times are tough. Everything is more expensive.”
The pet food bank is open every Wednesday from noon to 2 pm Owners with a maximum of five pets are allowed to come once a week, up to twice a month.

Once a thousand license plate sign-ups are reached, it will take approximately six months for them to be shipped. While there is no hard deadline yet, sign-ups are needed sooner rather than later.
“You can go to our website, or you can check out our social, which is @nashvillehumane on Instagram, and you can click the link in our bio, and it will take you there. You can make a $35 donation and then fill out the other information. It’s super simple,” Spreitler said. “It takes about 30 seconds.”
