Food banks for people report unprecedented demand in 2024, but on Saturday, a Calgary non-profit known for its generosity will open a food bank for pets.
The Love With Humanity Association is holding a grand opening Saturday afternoon for its first pet food bank at the Albert Park Radisson Heights Community Association, at 2636 12 Ave. SE
The pet food bank will sit alongside a community outdoor food bank and 39 of the organization’sth multicultural outdoor library.
The initiative was first announced on the X page by founder Syed Najam Hassan in mid-March.
“Stay focused!” he posted. “We have not forgotten about the importance of pets in our society. Many people are in a difficult financial situation, we decided to open our new initiative, the Free Outdoor Food Bank for Pets (get a blessing — leave a blessing.)
There is also a second food pet bank. It is at 631 Whitewood Rd. NE, where there is also a community outdoor food bank and a multicultural library.
The grand opening will begin on Saturday at 1 pm
