The footage, which has garnered more than 666,000 views since it was posted Sunday, was captured at a Pride parade in Patchogue on Long Island, D’Esposito said. Newsweek. The video shows Bandit, a 5-year-old catahoula leopard rescue dog, sitting with some dog toys placed by the window as he looks out at the parade.
D’Esposito said it was the first time he’d seen her do it. “He carries his toys everywhere, loves to walk around.”
Asked why Bandit might want his toys during the parade, he said: “I think he does it because he loves his toys and he has anxiety. [so he] want to keep them close.”
While it is not known exactly why Bandit felt the need to bring his toys out the window, his attachment to them may be due to their novelty factor, according to a November 2012 study conducted with Labrador retriever.
The study, published in Animal Cognition, stated that “domestic dogs are reported to exhibit intense but transient neophilia [a love for all things new] towards novel things.”
The study found that “the loss of interest in the object during object-oriented play in this species is due to habituation to the general properties of the toy stimulus rather than to any single sensory modality.”
In an article for VCA, one of North America’s largest animal hospital chains, veterinarians Debra Horwitz and Gary Landsberg said: “Novel and highly desirable items, like tissue stolen from the trash can , a favorite toy, human food, or a piece of raw food, are some of the things dogs can aggressively protect.”

A voice in the clip says: “My dog is special. There’s a parade going on outside my window and he literally brought his toys out the window…uh…to watch, I guess?”
A caption shared with the post said: “This dog is of its own breed.”
