SPRINGFIELD – Cat food is in short supply at the Effingham County Animal Shelter and the adjacent Pet Food Pantry.
The shelter recently joined forces with Coastal Pet Rescue and the Two Black Dogs Foundation to help feed pets belonging to Effingham County citizens who are enduring financial hardship. Located on the shelter grounds at 307 GA Hwy 119, the pantry opened on Feb. 5.
“The offer is that (the partnership will) help subsidize pet owners until they get back on their feet,” Animal Shelter Director Lorna Shelton said before the pantry’s opening.
Donations of pet food can be delivered to the shelter. It is open 1-4:30 pm Monday and Thursday, and 10:30 am-4:30 pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.
In addition to food, pantry users are strongly encouraged to spay or neuter their animals. Two Black Dogs Foundation will help people with the cost.
Pantry hours are 1-3 pm Monday-Friday.
The Animal Shelter can be reached at 912-754-2109.
