A woman left internet viewers in stitches after her dog’s boyfriend made them unrecognizable.
Abigail (@_abbycpt) uploaded hilarious footage of her Shih Tzu after a fateful trip to the groomers. The once plush pooch with a sweeping gray-and-white coat is nearly bald with only long ear hair remaining. Abigail shared before-and-after photos of her pet in the clip, which has garnered more than 2.7 million views since April 29. She said on TikTok: “I think the groomer gave me a wrong dog.”
Thousands of commenters couldn’t believe their eyes when they saw the dog’s new hairdo, which read: “From Shihtzu to beagle real quick.”
Another added: “That’s definitely not the same dog.”
Newsweek reached out to @_abbycpt for comment via TikTok. We cannot verify the details of the case.
Shih Tzus are small, long-haired dogs that originated in China. They are affectionate, but their coat requires a high level of maintenance, according to the American Kennel Club.
Other Shih Tzu owners have shared that they have had similar experiences or are too scared to take their pets to groomers in case they have the same experience.
Amanda Lynn wrote: “She just needs to have her ears trimmed in leather and she looks great! I feel your pain, I had a Shih Tzu too and they once did a doozy on her.”
Others found the transformation very funny. Erica posted: “It’s so hard to look them in the eye when that happens.”
Some had more positive things to say about the change, with one adding: “I get my dogs’ hair like this year it helps keep it clean and they’re always happier.”
Even though this puppy had an unfortunate experience, groomers are often a lifeline for abandoned pets.
Teeni was abandoned and her first grooming session with her new owners was documented where the groomers took care to make sure the husky felt like she was in safe hands.
His owner, who uses the handle @milothehuskyrescue, shared the adorable video, which has garnered over 443,000 views.
Other dogs do not react well to being touched and cut; a puppy called Bean was so frightened that he knocked over the groomer, and had to be gagged and held in the air until his owner came to pick him up.
