ALEXANDRIA — After the Echo Press received multiple phone calls of several eagles sitting on a pond along County Road 82, an Echo Press employee, Lynn Mounsdon, went out to try and take some photos.
On Tuesday afternoon, March 5, just before 1 p.m., Mounsdon found at least five eagles sitting on the lake. The Echo Press received a call earlier today that there were more than 30 eagles at the same lake the day before, Monday, March 4.
Eagles, including some juveniles, were reported feeding on fish frozen in the lake.
The pond is located next to the Brophy Bay Mart along County Road 82 northwest of Alexandria, across from Lake Brophy.
On Wednesday morning, March 6, just before 8 am there were reports of only one eagle.
Eagles have big appetites. According to the website, journeynorth.org, eagles can eat between 5% and 10% of their body weight in a day. And their favorite food is fish.
