As the seasons change, so should the care you give your pet. Here are some top health tips to consider as the year progresses.
SUMMER: When walking your dog, make sure the surface of the path or road is not too hot and avoid walking in the middle of the day when the weather is hottest. Keep an eye on your pet’s water bowl to make sure it has access to fresh drinking water.
SPRING: As we head into peak paralysis tick and flea season, spring is a great time to make sure your dog is protected against these nasty parasites.
And of course, while you should take care of your dog year-round, spring is a great time to trim your dog’s hair and do a thorough coat overhaul to make sure your pet looks — and feels — good. .
Winter: Change your dog’s exercise routine to make sure he doesn’t walk too much at night or early in the morning, and consider a doggy coat or jacket for short-haired or older pets who may feel the cold more than others.
AUTUMN: As we head into warmer weather, wash your dog’s blankets and check them for any signs of wear and tear since they were last used. Keep your dog bed away from any drafts to ensure your pet is comfortable as the cooler nights set in.
Finally, check your dog’s outdoor enclosure options to make sure there is a leak-proof kennel or some sort of dry area for your dog if he is left out in the rain.
Of course, throughout the year, we recommend feeding your pet the highest quality pet food to ensure optimal dog health. And, as always, if you have any health concerns, WellBeing PETS A visit to your local veterinarian is recommended.
