It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of Don Green, our legendary Sage founder.
In many ways, Don was a man of great integrity, a passionate angler, and a modern fly rod design pioneer. Don’s influence on fly rod performance extends well before Sage, since the 1950s – his innovation with the graphite material changed fly rod design forever. Through his awards, Don has remained humble, never seeking the spotlight, driven by the simple goal of making the best casting rods for anglers around the world. He empowered those in the field to be spokespeople for his work. Those he assigned to this responsibility were, and are, some of the best the fishing world has ever seen. It organically created a sense of ownership with Sage, and a belonging to a community and culture created by his canes – everyone wanted to be a part of it, it was contagious. Don’s legacy is in that culture, which lives on strong today and will continue into the future.
