With summer fast approaching, the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) is reminding residents and visitors to make sure their fishing licenses are up to date.
Commercial marine licenses, multipurpose licenses, shellfish over 65 licenses, and nonresident standard licenses are all due on Thursday, 29 February. DEM sends license renewal notices to license holders.
If you can’t wait, you can renew your license online at DEM’s Rhode Island Outdoors licensing website, by mail, or in person at the DEM Office of Boat Registration and Licensing.
DEM will also offer a 60-day grace period immediately thereafter for late renewals. During this time, you may pay a $200 late fee if you choose to renew your marine licenses. Not renewing your license before Feb. 29 will result in a $200 late fee.
You should also make sure you have a valid Rhode Island fishing license. A valid license year runs from January 1 to December 31, 2024.
If you have any questions about renewing a fishing license or want to check if your license is valid, you can contact DEM’s Division of Marine Fisheries in the Jamestown Office at 401-423-1923.
