When a puppy named Jammy arrived at Marin Humane, an independent rescue in Novato, California, he immediately stole the hearts of everyone there. With an irresistible smile and a playful personality, it didn’t take long for the shelter staff to be charmed by her. However, they soon discover that Jammy has more challenges than finding a new home—he has a bit of a weight problem that needs attention. Jammy was surrendered to the shelter after his owner could no longer care for him, and upon arrival, he tipped the scales at 17.6 pounds.
For a small dog, that’s more than he should weigh—his ideal weight is closer to 10 pounds. His extra weight made it difficult for him to move comfortably, which meant he spent most of his time carrying a load—something he didn’t seem to mind.
But being overweight wasn’t the only obstacle Jammy faced. After a thorough examination, the vets discovered that he had 13 bladder stones that required immediate surgery. Despite these health issues, Jammy’s cheerful demeanor never wavered. Every new person he meets becomes an instant friend, and he makes sure to spread joy wherever he goes.
“Jammy is a charming, funny little guy,” said Julia Lamont, social media and marketing specialist at Marin Humane, in an interview with The Dodo. “He was friendly and sociable, and he socialized with everyone he met. He also has some silly quirks; for example, he enjoyed playing with the cat wand toy! He’s been through a lot in his time at our shelter because of his health issues, and he’s been a superstar through it all.”
After his successful surgery, Jammy moved into a foster home to recover. Surrounded by love, she quickly recovered and returned to the shelter, ready to find her forever family. She continues to lose weight and hopes to find an active home that will support her health journey while keeping her as happy as ever.
Jammy loves to bask in the sun and walk around, eager to pull his human in any direction he wants. Mealtime is another favorite part of his day—he doesn’t hesitate to express his thoughts about his meals with enthusiastic barks. Having spent time around other animals, Jammy thrives with a furry sibling to accompany him on fun-filled adventures.
Rocky the Poodle is Left to Suffer in Silence
He is severely malnourished, his body is weak. His curly hair collected not only urine, but also feces, which left him with painful open wounds.
UPDATE: When this article was first published, Jammy was still waiting for a family. Soon came the good news that Jammy had found his forever person, and he drove all the way from Oregon to pick him up. May Jammy and his new mother live in perfect harmony. We just want a happy ending, right?
