The usual suspects of the Canada goose, Coot, Moorhen, Snipe, Shoveller, Teal, Mallard, Little Grebe and Wigeon are present today. I was happy to see 6 Tufted ducks and 4 Pintails among other species of ducks.

Male Hen Harrier Brian reported on the 26thth November is still there and has been bombed several times. It’s interesting that one of my photos looks like it’s ringed! He spent most of the time on the northern side just hunting along the track. Although I have seen several ringtails, this is the third time I have seen a male. It is always special to see this majestic bird.

Big crop on the picture, it looks like the bird is ringed! |
A Marsh Harrier repeatedly emerged from the undergrowth and was preyed upon at one point. The Canada Geese didn’t seem impressed and watched it intently for a while! Unfortunately it is always facing the opposite direction when hunting (due to wind direction), so there are no decent images to help age the bird.

Three Choughs are in the field west of the mere. Chaffinch were in the willows next to the bark and a few Reed Buntings were seen in another bush along the stretch.
A large flock of Golden Plover was seen over the Trehill fields on the horizon with smaller numbers of Lapwing.
