With Mother’s Day just around the corner, PDSA is celebrating all the self-confessed ‘pet parents’ out there by sharing five signs that you’re a ‘pet mum’.
PDSA Vet Nurse, Nina Downing, said: “Whether you’re a cat mum, a dog mum or a bunnies mum, the bond we share with our furry friends is undeniably special. We’re so lucky to be able to share our homes and lives with pets.
“Maybe your pet is your best friend, and you want to take care of them to show them how much you love them! We’ve rounded up five signs that show you’re a pet parent to a pampered four-legged friend .
1. Your pet eats better than you
“Food is often the key to a person’s heart and that is no different for many of our food-loving furry friends. To show our pets that we love them, maybe you always buy their favorite food or make homemade treat recipes, like delicious pumpkin cookies.
“As we know, diet is a very important factor for our furry companions to live long, healthy lives. As much as we want to treat our pets, extra snacks should always be in moderation and the their daily food allowance is reduced by 10%, to avoid a chubby companion.
2. You don’t move, even if you feel uncomfortable
“Every pet parent knows how wonderful it is for your pet to come and cuddle with you, sitting on your lap or lying next to you. Even if you start to feel uncomfortable – refuse to move and disturb your pet to continue may they rest in peace.
3. you are happy to show your pet photos to anyone
“You probably want to show off those precious photos of your beloved pet to everyone – and why not? Most pet owners can relate to having hundreds of photos of their pet on their camera roll!
4. You talk to your pet
“Pets can be perfect companions, always there no matter what and help fight any sad day. Many animal lovers indulge in talking to their four-legged friends, and while they can’t -chat back to us – we can tell by their body language that they are listening. They may even show signs of love back, whether it’s a happy waggy tail from your dog, or a gentle lick from your cat
5. Your social life includes your pet
“Whether it’s working your social calendar around your partner or simply taking them to events. Your social life has to serve your pet, and why shouldn’t it? They are a lovely member of your family, and there is nothing wrong with planning your social life around your pet.
“Just make sure they’re happy and comfortable, wherever you take them. Or if you’re hosting at your home, make sure your pet has a safe, quiet place they can go, in case their social batteries run out, and they’d rather be alone.”
Pets bring so much joy to our lives, so it’s important that we meet all of their needs as well. For more information about caring for your pet, go to the PDSA website.
