Peach kitty comes and goes. Sometimes he would, but then weeks would go by where I barely saw him at all, and my man only caught glimpses of him on security cams. Recently he has been visiting regularly.
I haven’t posted much about him, except for some social media videos, because his visits are pretty routine, nothing much to write about! He was happy to see me, but he was still very shy of my person and usually stayed away from him.
Many people wonder why my people didn’t adopt her and give her a home. Which, actually, he would think was a really weird question — because he is have a house! She lives between our house and my human’s house with her mom, sister, brother, and maybe a few other cats. They don’t think their lives are bad, and they really aren’t. Only people think living outside is bad.
Homeless people need help to get a roof over their heads. For peach kitty and her family, this is their life outside the cat house. They know where to take shelter when it rains. They are very savvy about both predators and prey. And they have people looking out for them so they don’t have to worry about prey so much. They don’t think they are suffering or in any danger. Only people do.
Of course, my man sees the dangers. We have coyotes, raccoons, and the occasional unleashed dog in our area. Although we live on a quiet street and people never park their cars up and down, it only takes one forgetful moment for something bad to happen. He wants nothing more than to get the whole family inside and safe. But peach kitty’s mother and siblings are likely to be angry and unhappy. And what if we just took the peach kitty? He doesn’t want to be separated from his family, and it will probably take months or even years for him to adjust to life inside.
Is it worth putting any of them through this? My man wrestles with that a lot. But he must admit, that when he was in his youth and 20s (and beyond), he spent most of his time in the worst part of the big city we lived in, going to rock clubs and sometimes getting into trouble. His parents wanted him to stay home and be safe, but he hated it! In fact, when he was in high school, he snooped and lied so he could live his life the way he wanted. So he kind of understands where the outside kitties are coming from.
But if peach kitty, or anyone in her family, changes her mind, we’re here for them. And we continue to encourage them to consider it. For now, you can watch the video below of our visit earlier this week.
