I do the best I can with all my cat therapy visits, but some days are better than that, and this week’s visit to the children’s hospital was one of them. I moaned almost non-stop the entire time I was there, and I got high fives and even a few heads.
First we stop at the surgery where a boy looks like he’s waiting for preparations. He was not sedated and was very happy to see me. I was very happy to see him.
After saying hi to some staff in the lobby, we stopped by to see if anyone wanted to visit. An older girl was very happy that I was there. But she only got about two pets before she was called into the exam rooms. So he had to take his body brace and leave with his mother.
The first exam room I visited had a little boy who loved me. I did tricks and high fived him. The next patient, a little girl, said she wanted to see me … but then she was afraid of me. His father tried to convince him that I was nice, while his grandfather sat there, looking at his phone. I tried to help by stroking dad’s shoes, and when the girl still wasn’t sure about me, I went over and stroked grandpa’s shoes as well. Finally he stroked my tail a few times. I guess that’s kind of a win!
I also saw an older teen boy with his arm in a sling. He had a cat at home, and he and his mom thought I was cool. I sat on the exam table next to him, and gave him a high five with the arm that wasn’t in the sling. The next little girl was a little shy about me, though not as much as with her father and grandfather. My guy and his mom chat while I try to make friends with the girl.
It’s almost time to leave, but my man wants to check into another exam room. And this is the teenage girl I saw in the lobby. My guy looked and saw some X-rays of his spine, and it was pretty obvious he had scoliosis. The girl was very happy to see me, and she played with me for hours without interruption. So it was a good end to a good visit.
Here are other times I had a great visit with the kids:
