I love doing therapy cat visits at the big hospital! The security person at the front desk knew me by name. And I started working when I arrived. A few guests were looking at me as my person signed in. So he put me on the counter in front of them. They were delighted!
After a short stop at the Cancer Center (the patients were sleeping, but I visited the nurse), we went up to Pediatrics. I saw three different women.
The first one was in bed, groggy, but he wanted to see me. My man puts me on his bed, and he rubs me a little while his mother hovers around, caressing me. He admitted that he probably enjoyed the visit more than his daughter! But it’s okay, I’m also there for the parents. They really need stress.
The second girl was a teenager who was alone. I sat her on the bed and rested. The girl had a TV movie with a scene involving soldiers and rogue killers chasing some women through a hellish cityscape. My man couldn’t stop looking at it, and I think it bothered him a bit. (She does not enjoy that type of movie.) Meanwhile, I almost took a nap with my chin on the woman’s arm and was making her happy. Luckily one of us worked!
I only briefly saw the third woman. He is a very nice boy who is a little afraid of me, but still continues to be with me. His mother was there and she was also happy about my visit.
Then, it was time to head into Behavioral Medicine. They brought two women and a man with me. I had fun being with them and posing for pictures. My person chatted with them and showed them a video of me in my Teddy bear costume, and one with a peach kitty. When they heard the story about my candy striper bow tie, one of the nurses said that she had become a candy striper! We were having so much fun, we worked overtime. That said, it was a very good visit, one of my best.
Can you believe I have been visiting this hospital since 2016? It may be big, but it’s almost a home away from home for now.
