There were more than 400 pets living with people who lost their homes on August 8, who were in temporary hotel housing.
To help them, the Maui Humane Society opened the Lahaina Pet Resource Center on Wednesday, which includes a mobile veterinary clinic, support from MHS’s Wildfire Community Liaison, and free food and pet supplies, according to a news release.
The mobile veterinary clinic will provide weekly health services, such as vaccines, microchips and flea prevention.
MHS’s Wildfire Community Liaison will work with pet owners to help them find resources for pet-friendly housing, financial support for off-island pet travel, and more.
“As the Maui Humane Society reaffirms our support and kuleana, our location in Lahaina will serve as the seed of regrowth in our strong community and island on the West Side,” said Johnny Lingao, MHS Wildfire Community Liaison. “By providing free resources to those affected by the tragic Lahaina fire, it is our mission to keep pets and people together.”
The Lahaina Pet Resource Center is located at 48 Ulupono Street and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm Pet owners can schedule a one-on-one consultation with MHS’s Wildfire Community Liaison for special that support. The MHS mobile veterinary clinic will offer free health services on Wednesdays at this location. Find more information about veterinary services and scheduling on the Maui Humane Society website.
