Maine Shelter Seeks Help for ‘Miracle’ Stray Kitten

When it comes to animals, the people of Maine have shown time and time again how much they care, whether it’s for animals that have spent too long in a shelter or people who have crawled out here for too long.

Sometimes, those stories are hard to tell and understand. One of those stories — the story of a struggling stray cat who became pregnant — was recently shared on Facebook by Responsible Pet Care of Oxford Hills.

Arriving at the shelter over the weekend, a stray cat named Daytona needs help, as she is in poor health and is clearly pregnant. The incredible staff at Responsible Pet Care of Oxford Hills got to work right away. However, before they know it, Daytona is ready to take her kittens.

She required an emergency c-section, and during that procedure, veterinarians discovered that all but one of Daytona’s kittens had died. Even if the discovery is bad, the goal is clear and obvious to save a “miracle” kitten.

That kitten is named Bristol, and for the past few days, the kitten has continued to defy all odds. But this comes at a cost.

Like most animal shelters, Responsible Pet Care of Oxford Hills operates on a shoestring budget with contingencies for severe emergencies. The c-section for Daytona and the care for Bristol crushed that contingency for the shelter.

Responsible Pet Care of Oxford Hills is looking for donations to replenish their emergency contingency should another situation like this arise.

Daytona and Bristol are going to foster homes to continue their rehabilitation in loving spaces. The people of Maine always come to the rescue.
