GONZALES, La. (BRPROUD) — The Louisiana Pet Food Bank in Gonzales is desperately seeking donations of dog food, cat food, cat litter and flea prevention items.
Jonathan Henriques, founder of the Rescue Alliance, said this year the demand for pet food is greater.
“We usually do about 50 families per month in a slow month. You know, sometimes it’s, you know, it’s almost 300 per month,” said Henriques.
With the year just beginning, Henriques said the pet food bank is in critical need of donations. Right now, she said the pet food bank has a lot of pending applications, especially as people recover financially from the holidays.

“We’re actually getting more applications and actually less donations coming in. Right now, we’re in dire need of dog food, cat food, wet and dry,” Henriques said.
The application asks for ID, information on the animal’s eating habits, and photos of the pet, no income is required. This resource is available to Louisianans in need, and is beneficial to many families, according to Henriques.
Henriques hopes the community will come together, before it’s too late.
“We are not helping them. They are more at risk of being surrendered to animal shelters, which across the country are overcrowded or starving. And we want to make sure that every pet gets food,” Henriques said.

Rescue Alliance at 12484 Hwy 44 in Gonzales.
