Dogs possess a level of intelligence that often exceeds our expectations, often exhibiting behaviors that surprise us. This is what happened to Rajah, an 18-month-old dog, who, startled by the sound of fireworks, ran away from his home to put as much distance as possible between himself and the noise. His family was wracked with worry for more than seven hours, tormented by the thought that they would never see him again.
However, Rajah has a surprise in store for his family, displaying almost human-like abilities. Following his day full of unexpected escapades, Rajah instinctively knew it was time to return. In an action that shocked his family, he rang the doorbell of his house, eagerly waiting to share the stories of his adventurous day with his loved ones.
An Unexpected Adventure:
Ryan Washick and Mary Lynn Whitacre were consumed by panic after Raja disappeared. The peaceful scene of the puppy hanging out in the yard was shattered by what seemed to be the most terrifying sound he had ever experienced. The explosion of firecrackers from their neighbors’ celebration caused fear in Rajah. In a remarkable feat, he managed to jump over the family fence at 5pm and disappeared. Fortunately, their other dog stayed in the yard.
Because of Rajah’s swiftness, it quickly disappeared from sight. In a desperate effort to find her, Ryan and Mary Lynn mobilize friends and relatives to join the search. They toured the area by car and covered more than six miles on foot. Despite their best efforts throughout the night, they could not find Rajah.
“Ryan and I were shocked and felt helpless,” Mary Lynn said.
So, the couple went to sleep with broken hearts. It was one of the scariest nights of their lives, but there was nothing they could do. However, after falling asleep, the unthinkable happened. Someone came to their door and rang the doorbell. This is someone who knows their home better than anyone else.
Don’t underestimate Dogs
Ryan said he heard scratching at the front door around 3 a.m. Then, the doorbell rang and the camera captured footage of a dog ringing the doorbell with their nose. Rajah is home! He knew exactly what to do in the situation, much to Ryan and Mary Lynn’s surprise.
“I don’t know how he knew how to do that, I never showed him how,” Mary Lynn said. “He doesn’t go out front, except to the car, so he didn’t see us use the doorbell.”
When they let Rajah inside, they said he got scared as if he was afraid of getting into trouble. So, his parents assured him that they were not angry. They were just happy that he was back safe and sound. It looks like Rajah had an exciting adventure without his family.
“He had thorns on him and seemed to roll in shit,” Mary Lynn said. “So, he seemed to enjoy it.”
We never know when our dogs will surprise us. After all, the family explained that they had only been living in their current home for about a month. So, that proves sweet Rajah is a genius!
