The little terrier is being kept at the Carlow Kilkenny Dog Shelter in the hope that the owner can still return for their pet.
Time to Paws, a dog grooming parlor and doggie day care center based in Ferrybank in Co Kilkenny were left with an extra dog on their hands after an owner failed to return to collect his dog after a grooming appointment – repair
The man in question gave his contact details to Time to Paws but could not be contacted to pick up his dog when the 10am appointment finished.
In a Facebook appeal last week, Time to Paws urged the owner to pick up the dog before the store closed for the day.
“Could the gentleman who dropped off his dog for his 10am groom make arrangements to pick up your dog as soon as possible when we close at 6pm.”
Unfortunately, the owner never returned to the groomers to collect his dog and Time to Paws was forced to contact Ferrybank Garda Station to assess what the next step was.
“The man in question gave his contact details but could not be contacted,” Time explained to Paws.
“We had no choice but to contact Ferrybank Garda Station, who advised us accordingly.
“The next day, we contacted the relevant authorities and had the dog scanned for a microchip but unfortunately he was not chipped.
“We have been advised, that by law, once 24 hours have passed we are obliged to report the matter to the local dog shelter, as the dog is now considered abandoned by the owner and possibly stolen.
“We did this with heavy hearts but please understand we had no choice. The lady from the dog shelter was absolutely amazing and thanked us for getting in touch.
Time to Paws added: “We want to assure everyone that this dog shelter does an amazing job and is a no kill shelter. If the owner does not come to them, the dog will be returned to a loving family
“We cannot say too much about this matter, however the Gardaí have informed us that this is a scam targeting dog groomers.”
The dog is now being kept at Carlow Kilkenny Dog Shelter with the hope that the owner may still come forward to be reunited with their pet.
In a Facebook post, Carlow Kilkenny Dog Shelter appealed for anyone with any information about the dog to come forward.
“This poor little guy was left with a groomer in South Kilkenny to be groomed but not collected. He came into our care not microchipped. If you have any information on who the owner of this dog may be please get in touch us at 0599726785.
“This dog’s owner claims he doesn’t have his own phone.”
The rescue center added that the little dog is currently not available for adoption, but will be after Thursday February 1 if it is not reclaimed by its owner.
