Is Beach Fishing Legal in New Jersey?
Yes, it’s legal to fish off the beach in New Jersey, as long as you go during unsupervised hours or in off-bath areas depending on the town, according to NJ.gov.
This makes perfect sense because if you’ve ever witnessed anyone surf fishing with big fishing rods on the beach, you’ll usually see it when the beachgoers have gone home and the lifeguards have retired for the night or very early in the morning.
Do You Need a Fishing License to Go Beach Fishing in New Jersey?
According to the NJDEP, ‘No, (you don’t need a fishing license), but you do need to be registered with NJ’s Saltwater Recreational Registry Program which can only be done online.” So, if you’re looking for a new hobby this summer, buy your fishing rod and head east!
