Today we review The Lap Dance, tied by Steve Cullen. The Lap Dancer is based on a Scottish stillwater favorite, the Yellow Dancer. The Yellow Dancer is probably the most popular lure for stillwater fly fishing. First used at Newmills Trout Fishery in the 90’s this pattern has been responsible for some incredible catches in the Fishery and has since spread across the UK delivering result after result.
As for the Lap Dancer, it’s tied with a darker, richer Sunburst Yellow Tail. The grain used is also a colorful attractive orange, it creates a natural trigger for the fish. The pattern also uses Lite Brite in Gold which creates a very bright, shiny body and like a Yellow Dancer, the hackle of the body creates a lot of turbulence as it is pulled through the water.
All the materials needed to tie this fly are available from Glasgow Angling Center as listed below, but as always, if you need any help finding materials or replacements, we’d be happy to help.
