A rescue dog has gone viral on TikTok after his owner revealed the adorable way he uses his favorite type of toy to lull him to sleep before every nap.
Myko, a mixed breed of mountain cur, Great Pyrenees, and even chow chow, cannot sleep without his soft and vibrating ball, which he will carry in his mouth until he drifts off. When the squeaks start to slow down, the owner knows that his pet is getting tired, and when they stop completely, the dog is finally sound asleep.
Myko’s owner, from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, said Newsweek that he started referring to the toys as his “beads of emotional support because he takes them everywhere.” These are so important to the puppy that he needs to have a few around the house in case he loses any, or if they fall into too much chewing.
“He held the bead in his mouth and softly squealed it over and over again. As time went on, he seemed to be calming himself down to sleep as his eyes began to close and the squeaks became more frequent until they were completely that stopped,” the owner of Myko, who wanted to. remain anonymous, said.
“It’s so cute it’s hard not to squeeze it. Sometimes, he sleeps with it in his mouth. When he’s really tired, he gently puts it down next to him, but when he wakes up and it’s not around, he panics and you have to find it. He usually sleeps in one wherever he is around the house.”
Sometimes, the process can only take a minute or two before Myko falls asleep, but on other occasions, it can take up to 20 minutes before the squeaking stops.
Myko has built a following on social media, through his TikTok account (@mykomushroom) and the adorable video of him soothing himself to sleep has delighted many. Since the clip was posted in December, it has been viewed more than 232,600 times and received more than 41,200 likes.
Why Do Toys Soothe Dogs?
Dog toys can provide several benefits for any pup, whether it’s the joy of playtime, keeping them busy, or entertaining them. For dogs like Myko, who are often anxious, the American Kennel Club (AKC) says that familiar soft toys can provide them with familiarity, which is very calming for them.
Vibrating toys in particular can help dogs reduce fear of unusual sounds, which the AKC adds are good for socialization.
Having a comfort item, such as a toy or a blanket, can be calming for a nervous dog, so whenever you take your dog somewhere new, such as on a trip, it’s recommended that you bring their favorite item to make them more comfortable. .
Myko hardly ever leaves the house without one of his squeaky beads, as he takes it for walks, and also to his beloved grandparents’ house.
