Loyal to our Pets, Loyal to Our Planet, Loyal to our People. That’s Honest Pet Products’ motto, and it drives everything they do. Born out of founder and president Mary Wolff’s desire to use her creativity and compassion for all living things to do something truly important, the company adheres to these three core, relentless, and uncompromising principles in everything they do.
I love promoting companies with these kinds of ethical principles, and I was thrilled when Mary asked if we’d like to review their cat products.
Honest Pet Products’ Ethical Principles
Loyal to Our Pets
All of their toys and accessories are made from the most natural, safe, and durable materials possible. They are truly eco-friendly, not just repackaged recycled plastics and synthetics labeled eco-friendly, a shortcut many companies take because eco-friendly has become a buzzword.
Loyal to Our Planet
The materials used to make their products are in their most natural form to promote sustainability and reduce the carbon footprint.
Loyal to Our People
Many of their products are made by people with mental and developmental disabilities in Green Bay, WI, and Newfoundland, Canada. Their 100% natural wool cat toys are handmade in Mongolia by the women of poor, nomadic herding families who live without many basic necessities. Through the Snow Leopard Trust’s Fair Trade Cooperative, these families earn a living using their traditional wool-making skills. In return, the herders protect the endangered snow leopards that share their habitats.
And to top it all off, the toys look adorable – what’s not to love about a company like this!
Testing Honest Pet Products
We receive the full range of cat products. When I opened the box, Allegra thought it was Christmas in January!
These toys are incredibly well made. Allegra was first drawn to Hemp toys, specifically, the Eco Cat Fisher. The catnip in the fish must be some good stuff because she barely let me take the string off before shoving her face all over it. I like the bamboo pole, it looks cool and has a great hand feel to it.
The two Eco Pouncer mice were a big hit, especially the mini version.
He wasn’t quite sure what to make of the Eco Caterpillar, but it sure made me smile every time I looked at it – and it moved “on its own,” so I knew he was playing with it without me looking. .
They also sent us their two-sided grooming brush. Featuring a 100% sustainable bamboo handle with soft natural boar bristles on one side and a detangling and massage pin on the other, it comes with a bonus bottle of organic shampoo. Allegra loves both sides of the brush for grooming but she doesn’t even want to do anything with the idea of a bath… That said, if your cat really needs a bath, I’d consider this shampoo a great choice .
