A young guinea pig is looking for a new home after being abandoned at Canning Town underground station last month.
The cute animal, named ‘DiscoPig’ by his RSPCA rescuers, was discovered by station staff at 4.20pm on February 18.
The six-month-old animal was left with a note, which read ‘I need a new owner,’ found taped to the cage.
RSPCA inspector Shahnaz Ahmad, who collected DiscoPig, said: “He appears to be healthy and well cared for. It’s very sad that someone would abandon their pet in this way. Rather than leave them in a vulnerable situation like this .”
Guinea pigs, known for their sociability, are usually happier when in the company of other guinea pigs. Neglecting them can lead to abnormal behavior and potential suffering.
Inspector Ahmad added, “Abandoning pets in such a way is an incredibly cruel thing to do and will not be the answer. If anyone has information, we would ask them to contact the line of the RSPCA appeal confidentially on 0300 123 8018.”
DiscoPig, now under the care of the RSPCA, is in good health and will soon be available for rehoming with a companion. The incident highlights the need for responsible pet ownership and the importance of seeking help from animal welfare organizations when faced with challenges.
