A woman who recently lost her dog was given the “sweetest surprise ever” by her friend, who made a blanket out of her beloved pet’s toys.
Chelsea Bishop’s dog Helmet died of nasal cancer at age 9. So, her friend made a blanket to remember him, using the pet’s favorite toys, and caught the emotional response of graphic designer.
In a clip shared on TikTok on July 15 (@ketohalfasser), Bishop sits in the passenger seat of his friend’s car. His friend reached for the blanket, which had been folded to hide the surprise inside. Bishop opened the gift and gasped to see the Helmet toys, neatly sewn into the blue material. Then she put her hands over her mouth in joy and burst into tears, crying out, “Oh my God.”
Nasal tumors account for about 1 percent of canine cancer, according to the University of Florida’s College of Veterinary Medicine. Unfortunately, the disease does not show clear symptoms until it reaches an advanced stage, which makes treatment difficult. Nasal cancer is incurable in cats and dogs, but treatment can prolong and improve the quality of life in some pets.
“It’s so sweet,” Bishop said in the clip, unable to hold back. He was examining each toy in detail, which made him cry even more.
“Gingey,” Bishop exclaimed excitedly, admiring Helmet’s gingerbread-man plush toy before hugging the blanket.
“I love you,” she told her friend, hugging Bishop as she continued to sob. “This is so sweet. I can’t believe you did this for me.”
“I just put them in the machine and sewed them,” replied his friend, to which Bishop replied, “Sew them, that’s good,” as his friend burst out laughing.
Bishop begins to reminisce about Helmet’s ghost toy, which is also sewn into the blanket. Bishop said his father won the stuffed toy in the claw machine at a bowling alley, before pulling his friend in for another hug.
“The sweetest surprise EVER,” Bishop wrote alongside the cute clip, which has received 1.8 million views.
The gift is melting hearts on the internet, with TikTok user MetaMystics calling the blanket an “act of love.”
