1st Place Team – Menteith Ospreys |
Fishing over two days on the exceptional Lake Menteith, a total of 948 fish were caught on methods ranging from dry fly to washing line in variable conditions. The first day saw a bright clear day and flat calm which made it difficult for the anglers to get their first fish. The Lake has been fishing well so far and their efforts have been rewarded with 406 fish banked. The second day was more favorable, warm with good waves in the water with a total total of 948 fish caught over the two days.
For many of the competitors, it was their first time visiting Lake Menteith and they were blown away by the size and strength of the fish and couldn’t wait to return. The average size of a fish bag taken by each competitor over the two days was over 4lbs and it was a fantastic atmosphere with teams traveling from England, Wales, Scotland, Islay, Orkney, Ireland and Northern Ireland to compete .
Some anglers have had the opportunity to fish with people whose home waters are very different and have an international mix. Many new fishing friendships were formed and toasted at the BBQ dinner provided by the Lake of Menteith Karma Hotel after fishing on both Saturday and Sunday.
