LAS VEGAS – Feeding Pets of the Homeless, a national animal welfare nonprofit based in Carson City, Nev., that provides services nationwide, received a community grant today as part of the Las Vegas Super Bowl LVIII Host Committee Game Day Grant Super Bowl Legacy grant program.
Founded in 2008, Feeding Pets of the Homeless provides free pet food, supplies, emergency veterinary care and wellness clinics to the companion animals of the homeless population nationwide.
Genevieve Frederick, founder and president of Feeding Pets of the Homeless attended the Las Vegas news conference today and said, “Nevada is our home and we are excited to host our first Super Bowl in the state. But too many people in the Las Vegas valley are struggling and experiencing homelessness along with their furry companions. This grant will help us continue our mission of saving pets and providing pet food and veterinary services through programs in Southern Nevada.
Since its founding, Feeding Pets of the Homeless has saved thousands of pets by providing more than 2 million pounds of food and nearly $5 million in veterinary assistance. Feeding Pets donations have helped more than 30,000 pets nationwide, including thousands of military veteran pet owners experiencing homelessness. Feeding pets has a four-star rating from Charity Navigator, their highest rating.
According to the NFL, at least 58 Super Bowl Legacy Grants will be divided into two categories: Pregame Grants, which awarded $1.2 million to immediate, high-impact community initiatives, and Game Day Grants totaling $1.8 million, to local non-profits. Both categories offer unrestricted funding for projects and programs to permanently improve the lives of Southern Nevadans in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion; education; health and wellness; social justice; youth and youth.
