Welcome to Wednesday Cats of Catster! Each month, we ask our cat-loving Catsters to weigh in on a new topic. This week, we asked them: What’s Your Favorite Thing About Your Cat? What Are Your Cat’s Favorite Things? Here’s what they had to say:
Crystal and Ivy
Just like we humans have our favorite things, so do our kitties! Here are some of Ivy’s all-time favorites.
As we all know, cats love to sleep. And as they get older, they spend more time sleeping.
With this being said, Ivy is fast asleep! He really is loving sleeping late in the morning. Most days, I’m up and in ’em by 8:00 am. Ivy just rolled over in bed around 11:00 am! During this time, he should not be disturbed. As in, to everyone.
He also has two favorite places in bed – either in my face or between my legs. He’s definitely changed how I sleep, but even though I’m uncomfortable, I love that he still sleeps with me. I thought it was something he would grow out of, but luckily it wasn’t! He also enjoys cuddling but, in typical feline fashion, on his terms.
Another favorite of Ivy’s is a treat called ‘Biskitty.‘ My girlfriend started a morning ritual that involved Ivy jumping on her cat tree and then receiving a few bum pats – and, of course, a couple of Biskitty treats!
Even on days my boyfriend is away for work, he looks forward to his bum pats and treats. He would get out of bed (eventually), run to the cat tree, and meow – all while giving me the ‘death stare.’ Also, if I forget to put the treat container away, there is a 100% chance that he will try to open it by knocking it over (he has succeeded several times, resulting in the treat container being out of the cat’s reach) . He would surely put one of his nine lives on the line just for a Biskitty crumb!
He never had much interest in the traditional cat toys available in pet stores. After spending a rather questionable amount of money on tons of different toys, we discovered a fan favorite: ping pong balls!
Simply bouncing the ball on the floor is enough to get his full attention! We live in a double-story townhouse, with the second floor being a loft. When we play together, we throw the ping pong ball up into the loft from the ground floor, resulting in a mad dash to the top from Ivy, to chase the ping pong ball. On some nights where he is very wild, he chases the ball around the loft for what feels (and sounds) like hours! So loud, but so cute!
Just a simple girl! Snooze, treats, and ping pong balls are a very small price to pay for the unconditional love and laughter she gives us!
Isabel and Milly
Milly and I really have a lot in common for two gals from different species. For example, Milly loves food whenever she is given a snack. I also rarely refuse food offerings. Milly likes lying stretched out in the sun. He even knows which rooms get the best sun at specific times of the day.
Similarly, I enjoy spending time in the sun, tanning, doing yoga, or gardening. We are both sassy, independent, not fans of crowds, love to Netflix and chill and we’re both obsessed with each other.
Let me tell you more about Milly’s other favorite things.
First, his favorite nap spots. His cat tree has a half-pipe, cylindrical spot that he claims is his all-time favorite spot. It is positioned right in front of the window with the most beautiful views of the mountains, a golf course, large gardens with a path below where many furries and people pass by, and a diverse collection of birds at play.
A new, but strong contender for his favorite napping spot is his Hepper Nest bed conveniently positioned on my desk where I spend most of my day. He loves being by my side while I work, I even have a small duster on standby to sweep my desk 5-10 times a day because he prances around my setup about 5 out of 8 hours a day that I was there.
He was really impressed when I put the Nest on my desk. He’s close to me and cuddles while I work, and I can actually see my screen without a cloud of cat hair floating around. It’s a win-win.
My favorite thing about Milly is knowing that she wants to be around me even though she’s not the most loving or cuddly cat. He chooses me every day, and that’s an incredible honor.
Stay tuned for Milly and I next time to read more about her favorite things about being a cat and my favorite things about being a cat owner!
Wes and Raphy
What I like most about Raphy is his presence. Now, I don’t mean that in the way you might think. Raphy just LOVES to be with us when we’re home, and I think it’s the best companion. If I sit on the floor, he will come and sit on the floor next to me. If I’m on the couch, he’ll sit on the next seat. And if I’m in the bathroom…well…the less said, the better! Will he act without interest? Sometimes But I know deep down, as long as he’s there, that he loves me. Sometimes, when Raphael wakes up from a lazy nap in the middle of the day and gets the urge to hang out with us, he can’t find us.
Before you blink slowly, he will suddenly cry:
“meow! “meow!”
Loosely translated, I think this means:
“Hey! Where is everyone?!”
We shout back:
“Raphy, we’re here!”
With a little “merp” of surprise, he will come running quickly in the direction of the directions.
As he accompanies me on whatever mundane task I am taking the hours away from at the time, his presence always reminds me of the fact that we are so lucky to have such quiet (and sometimes not so quiet) companions. in our lives. Just happy to be a part of our day.
