LOCKPORT, IL — A woman whose Pomeranian dog named Brandon died on Oct. 15, 2021, has retained a Joliet law firm to file a civil suit against Best In Show Dog & Cat Grooming on East 9th Street, accusing the Lockport business of negligence in the death of her dog.
The lawsuit was filed in Will County’s Courthouse on behalf of Brandon’s owner, Brendalisse Figueroa, by Joliet attorney Luke Antonsen of Hamilton & Antonsen on Executive Drive.
The Lockport business has not yet filed its response to the lawsuit. On Monday, Patch also left a voicemail seeking comment for this story on the Lockport pet grooming business.
According to the plaintiff, while Brandon was in business, Best In Show “allowed and or permitted dog grooming techniques and equipment at the aforementioned premises to be used in an unsafe and dangerous condition where the dog that plaintiff Brandon was strangled to death, although defendant knew or should have known that the methods and equipment used were and could cause death to domestic animals legally treated and present …”
The lawsuit also accuses Best In Show of not maintaining adequate oversight of dog grooming techniques and equipment used. As a result of Brandon’s death by strangulation, Figueroa suffered severe pain and mental anguish, her lawsuit said.
The lawsuit also names Lori Robinson in count 2 of the complaint, noting that she was and still is the owner of Best in Show.
The lawsuit alleges that Figueroa was present at Robinson’s business when Brandon was being treated, and that Robinson agreed to provide pet grooming.
The suit seeks a monetary judgment in excess of $50,000 from Robinson, as well as Best In Show.
