Some dog stories are very touching, and Tyson’s story is definitely one of them. When rescuers first heard the story about this sturdy old dog, they were stunned. This dog from New York City was discovered in an apartment next to his deceased owner, who had been there for about five days. Tyson may not have fully understood the situation, but he clearly sensed that something was wrong. The moment finally came when she left her home, and it broke her heart. Tyson is clearly one of the most anxious and lonely dogs. When they arrived to pick him up, the compassionate team from Twenty Paws Rescue, based in Brooklyn, New York, witnessed him hesitantly entering his crate, unwilling to leave it.
His fear and sadness were so overwhelming that he didn’t have the strength to go out. However, experienced rescuers know that time is the only cure for a broken heart. They waited patiently until Tyson understood that they didn’t mean him. No doubt it was difficult to let go of his familiar surroundings, especially after witnessing the death of his owner. Tyson struggled a lot, faced with diagnoses of anemia and a broken heart. He withdrew from eating or socializing with other dogs, choosing instead to remain secluded in his crate.
This lonely dog needs someone to empathize with his suffering, and Laura is that person! The TPR team identified him as the perfect fit for Tyson. Laura, a dedicated volunteer and avid dog lover, worked hard to bring Tyson comfort and peace. Within days, her caring demeanor and patience began to show results. Tyson started eating normally, offering Laura the softest kisses and almost non-stop hugs.
Gradually, Tyson began to interact and play with other dogs, coming out of his shell and showing a willingness to trust a new person. Despite efforts to find Tyson a home with his late owner’s family, no one was available to take him in. Then, Sarah appeared. This compassionate animal contacted TPR and offered to give Tyson a permanent home, which proved to be a perfect decision.
The moment she entered the facility, Tyson bonded with her, embracing Sarah with open legs and heart. Witnessing Tyson connect with his new guardian after such an ordeal was incredibly moving. Rachel and Laura burst into tears of happiness, overjoyed to see this wonderful dog settle into his forever home.
“I’m excited to welcome him into my life and just watch him get comfortable and realize this is my last stop. This is where I live now, and this is home,” Sarah said in the video below. Tyson is now a happy kid, living out his remaining years surrounded by all the love in the world.
