Naming a new dog can be a challenge, and some people have unique names. Located in Michigan, Canine College day care workers hear all kinds of names, and share videos featuring dogs named after places, foods and drinks, people, other animals, and more . They shared a video on Saturday, March 9th of dogs with unusual names, and some of them are quite interesting.
Many of the names are cute, some regal, and some will leave you scratching your head. If you’re like me, you’re probably wondering about the story behind it all!
Which name is your favorite? I thought Poggles was cute, as well as Spooky. But what I really want to know is why in the world their dog is named Buttkish! Canine College fans left nearly 4,000 comments, many asking to hear more names. @Damaris got over 24 thousand likes when she said, “Poggles looks like Poggles LOL!” Another commenter got almost 9 thousand likes when they said, “The legend had tilts for days”, and I laughed at Canine College’s response, “You can tell his tilts are.. .Legendary!!!”

How to Choose a Name for Your Puppy
Choosing the perfect name for your puppy isn’t always easy. We got a new puppy recently who is a rescue, and her name is Savannah, but my kids want to change it. The thing is, we can’t settle on one name! We could name her Puddles because she likes to drink puddles, but that’s probably at this point.
Here at Pet Helpful, we’ve shared a ton of articles with really great name ideas for your pets. But how do you choose the perfect name? Many people choose names based on their dog’s appearance or personality. Some people name their puppies after a favorite celebrity (did you know that Jennifer Garner named a dog after Martha Stewart), or some other favorite thing…or maybe one of their favorite things puppy!
I don’t know about you, but our family uses a lot of nicknames. Sometimes when you choose a name, it becomes unique. So take that into account when choosing and be sure to do the ‘nickname test’ – can the name you choose be shortened? Does it make sense to shorten it? Chances are the nickname will be a name that resonates with your dog.
If you have multiple pets, make sure you don’t name them something that sounds alike or sounds alike. It can cause a lot of confusion at home if you do!
