Dog parents sometimes choose to throw away pet toys when they are damaged beyond repair, but one golden retriever owner chose to have “surgery” to save the “killed” stuffed toy.
The hilarious December 4 clip shared by the iloveretrieverss account on TikTok shows the destructive results of a golden retriever’s overzealous play with a plush toy.
Wearing several face masks, the golden retriever sat patiently while the toy, with its belly open and revealing a fluffy interior, lay as if undergoing surgery.
“Our dog killed his dog,” the first caption on the video read. “So, our dog’s dog had a major surgery.
“But our dog is a good dog. So our dog helped the dog doctor to complete his dog’s surgery. Our dog’s dog’s surgery was successful.”
“Our dog couldn’t stop smiling,” said another caption. “His dog was seen alive. Our dog smiled at his dog and said: ‘Welcome back dog.'”
Despite the successful “operation” the last seconds of the video revealed that the dog had once again “killed” his toy.
The video, which can also be found here, has attracted around 2 million views and more than 131,400 likes.

Makes the Dog’s Ultimate Toy
The Humane Society of the United States says there are ways dog owners can make their toys last longer, including:
- Rotate your dog’s toys weekly and only have a few available at a time.
- Provide toys that serve different purposes.
- Try introducing interactive toys such as balls, flying discs, and other toys that can promote human-pet interaction.
- Have dogs search for their toys or treats as part of a great rainy day activity that will get them to use up energy without taking up a lot of space.
“For young, high-energy and untrained dogs, interactive play also offers an opportunity for socialization and helps them learn about appropriate and inappropriate behavior, such as jumping up or being mouth,” the organization said.
