Spin Master, the toy company, has unveiled the ‘Bitzee’ digital pet toy. The Bitzee is similar to a Tamagotchi from the late ’90s and early 2000s, but with a modern twist. The original Tamagotchi was a small egg-shaped toy with a 2-inch monocolor screen. These toys contain a virtual pet that must be cared for and fed, but can also be dressed up and played with. However, these virtual pets can grow old and die if not cared for properly.
Bitzee is a modern rendition of the same gameplay loop. With Bitzee, users can care for a floating digital pet that appears as a small hologram, rather than a small group of pixels on a 2D screen. In addition, all Bitzee pets can be unlocked with the same Bitzee toy, instead of having to buy several to collect different pets. Bitzee also supports some games that are unlocked while the user takes care of Bitzee.
Bitzee is currently available for preorder at an MSRP of $29.99 USD.
