The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks’ (MDWFP) Bob Tyler Fish Hatchery’s Visitor Education Center (VEC) will host spring break programs March 12 – 15 at 2:00 pm each day. Youngsters will learn about different predators for fish and how to identify these predators from specific clues. Each program will enable young people to view and touch real and replica specimens associated with each animal.
The programs are free with the price of admission. Admission is $2.50 for adults ages 18-59, and $2.00 for youth ages 3-17 and adults over age 60. For more information, or to pre-register a youth for the event, call the VEC at (662) 563-8068.
Events include:
March 12: Mysterious Pets – Many mammals prey on fish or are scavengers for “leftover” fish. Participants will follow clues to identify several unique mammals.
March 13: Fishing for Clues – Youngsters will learn to identify some carnivorous fish. VEC Staff will feed the “carnivores of the aquarium” after the program.
March 14: Reptilian Thieves – Youngsters can learn more about specific species of snakes, turtles, and other reptiles that eat fish!
March 15: Birds of Prey – The diet of many species of birds consists mainly of fish. Youngsters will discover seven birds of prey.
The VEC is part of MDWFP’s Bob Tyler Fish Hatchery and is located at Exit 233 east off I-55.
