Blue Ridge Beef is recalling all lot numbers and use by dates between N24 1124 to N24 1224 of their 2 lb. Kitten Grind log UPC 8 54298 00101 6; 2lb log of Kitten Mix UPC 8 54298 00143 6 and their 2lb log of Puppy Mix UPC 8 54298 00169 6 due to contamination by Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes, according to the US Food and Drug Administration. Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes can affect animals that eat the products and there is a risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they do not thoroughly wash their hands after handling the products or any exposed surfaces in these products.
On December 15, 2023, the company was notified by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services that one lot of each product was sampled and tested positive for Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes. However, the company is recalling all lots with use-by dates between N24 1124 to N24 1224.
No illness has been reported to date.
Products were distributed between 11/14/2023 – 12/20/2023. These products are packaged in clear plastic and are sold primarily in retail stores in the states of: CT, MA, MD, NC, NY, PA & VA. Lot numbers and used by dates can be found on the silver tabs at the end of the tubes.

Regarding Salmonella and Listeria contamination in pet food
Healthy people infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal pain and fever. rare, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms. Consumers who exhibit these signs after coming into contact with this product should contact their health care providers.
Pets with Salmonella and Listeria infections can be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will only have a loss of appetite, fever, and abdominal pain. Infected but healthy pets can become carriers and infect other animals or people. If a pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, owners should contact a veterinarian.

Do not sell or donate recalled products. Do not feed the recalled product to pets or any other animals. Wash and sanitize pet bowls, cups, and food containers.
