BAMBERG, SC (WRDW/WAGT) – A truckload of 26 pallets of donated pet food and supplies arrived in Bamberg last week as part of a national alliance between the Humane Society of the United States and Chewy Inc.

Chewy donated supplies and food, and the Humane Society paid for shipping costs and coordinated the deliveries.
This time, Bamberg County leaders are partnering with the Bamberg County Office on Aging to distribute the products to elderly pet owners.
Animal Control Officer Ginny Mitchell, Rish, Bamberg Litter Control Officer Pharrell Pulaski and Bamberg City Animal Control representative Jonathan Edgemon will be on site to meet the Chewy Truck and accept pet products.
The partnership between the Humane Society and Chewy is designed to help keep pets in homes. it was started during the pandemic to help families struggling to provide for their pets, especially in marginalized communities.
At the end of the pandemic, many pet owners are faced with having to surrender their pets due to a lack of resources.
Bamberg Office on Aging Executive Director Kay Clary was delighted that Bamberg was chosen to receive the donation.
“This is a great opportunity for so many people in Bamberg County,” Clary said. “We serve many pet owners and have volunteers who feed many of these animals during the week. With inflation, it has become more difficult to feed these pets, and the Humane Society and Chewy donations are greatly needed and appreciated. I’m excited to get this started.”
County Council Chairman Evert Comer Jr. said Bamberg County extended “heartfelt thanks” for the donation.
Details on the distribution of the products will be released later, officials said.
