After graduating from Albert Lea High School, Madi Fleek had decisions to make about what career she wanted to pursue.

A dog owner herself, Fleek said she has loved animals since she was little and wanted to pursue a career where she could work with them.

“I thought, ‘Why not go to grooming school?'” Fleek said.

Fleek studied dog grooming at Rio Grooming School in Hastings. After graduating in May, he decided to return to Albert Lea to start a dog grooming business in the area.

“I thought it would be a cool thing to just start something myself and see what happened from there,” Fleek said. In August, she opened Madi’s Mutts Grooming.

“It’s been really good so far,” he said.

Madi’s Mutts Grooming offers a full haircut, bath and brush and nail trim to dogs of all types. In fact, Fleek says seeing the variety of dogs he gets to work with is his favorite part of the job.

“I think … helping local businesses is a really good thing to do,” Fleek said. “We really love the support and love we get to support small businesses.”

Fleek currently owns three dogs, two labrador retrievers and a doodle.
