- Makisha Davis said her dog, Tuffy, was injured at Lucky’s Pet Grooming and Boutique
A dog owner has accused a Las Vegas pet grooming salon of animal abuse after her Maltese-Yorkshire terrier mix had to be put down after becoming paralyzed during a visit.
Makisha Davis said her dog, Tuffy, was injured from her treatment at Lucky’s Pet Grooming and Boutique.
‘I’m just now thinking, like what happened to my dog. I think he was hit on his back or forced to sit down. They did something to him,’ Davis told KSLTV.
The four-year-old dog has been a client for years, but Davis said he became paralyzed while at the boutique in December.
‘What did you do to my dog?,’ Davis asked the owner in a video taken at the salon.
‘I looked at her legs and her legs were straight, not even bent.’
The staff members did not give Davis any direct answers when he asked them.
‘The lady said you gave her this and I was like no, no. I never gave my dog to you like this,’ said Davis.
A vet said Tuffy had a ruptured disk in his back and told Davis the surgery would cost $10,000 or more.
Davis said he had to make the offensive decision to take him down.
He reported the incident to animal control, but they said they could not take action due to a lack of evidence, KSLTV reports.
After Channel 13 Las Vegas contacted animal control for the City of Las Vegas, they responded: ‘Animal Protective Services was contacted after the owner chose to have their animal euthanized by their veterinarian. The animal was given to the groomer by the owner without the animal stepping on the floor.
‘Animal Protection Services investigators cannot determine at this time if the animal will be able to use their hind legs upon arrival at the processing facility. At this time, there is no evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the animal was injured at the processing facility.’
Other clients of Lucky’s Pet Grooming and Boutique say they’ve had similar experiences with their pets being injured at the store.
‘If I get justice the day I ask for justice, there won’t be a second, third, fourth victim because there are more victims than my dog,’ said Margarita Bicana to KSLTV.
She said her dog, Turbina, visited the boutique in healthy condition, but left with a fractured lower jaw.
‘It’s just habitual behavior that they get away with,’ says Davis.
Davis plans to take action and raise awareness, so other pet owners don’t have to go through the pain she did.
‘There will be consequences and when the consequences come, they will know what they are,’ Davis said.
Channel 13 contacted the owner of Lucky’s Pet Grooming and Boutique. He decided not to go on camera but said the allegations were false.
MailOnline has contacted Lucky’s Pet Grooming and Boutique for a response.
