When something happens to your pet, how do you know when to seek emergency care?
Dr. Rebekah Hartfield is a veterinarian in Holdenville. He joined us to talk about urgent care for our pets.
When should you go to the vet?
“(The) big thing to me is breathing. If your dog can’t breathe, if there’s a lot of noisy breathing. They turn blue. That’s obviously serious. And you need to call your vet, that clinic calls right away care, emergency clinic and on their way quickly. You know, the bleeding won’t stop. That can also be very serious. What you can do at home though or on the way to the Veterinary Clinic, go ahead and put some, you know you, put pressure on that wound to stop that bleeding. That’s really important. And then the vet can take over from there. Or, you know, severe pain; they fall off the couch, injure their back. You know, it the things you need to get it in quickly, so they don’t cause even a severe paralysis later on. Poisoning, penetrating wounds, any of these are really, really important to get your dog to the vet in as soon as possible.”
