Maru’s story is one of resilience and hope. Despite his sad condition, the dog kept his eternal spirit. If Maru could express his thoughts, he would gladly trade his newfound recognition for a time in another past. Caught on a leash in a remote area near a dangerous cliff, Maru endured a decade of neglect. Despite this, he clings to the belief that brighter days will come. His journey began fourteen years ago as a young puppy, bought at a great price and initially part of a family for four years. Then, the change in ownership became the beginning of Maru’s misery. His new guardian decided to keep him chained outside– an unthinkable fate for such a gentle soul.
Maru’s imprisonment is in a small shelter that is definitely near the edge of a cliff, threatening his safety.
“Of all the rescue missions we’ve done, Maru’s situation was one of the most difficult because of the shelter’s precarious location,” her rescuers from WEACT shared on Instagram.
The harsh reality for Maru is spending his days under a metal sheet, seeking shelter from the elements and having no choice but to rest himself in the same confined space. Upon learning of Maru’s condition, the compassionate team at WEACT immediately embark on a rescue mission, dismayed to discover that Maru has been left to fend for himself for so long. They regret not finding him sooner, especially since Maru is at an age without experiencing the warmth of a home.
To their amazement, Maru greeted them with a warm smile and wagging tail, showing no signs of aggression, only a desire for companionship and relief from his solitude. The rescuers carefully brought him to their facility, where Maru, although anxious about the journey, quickly warmed to his new surroundings and was eager to eat a hearty meal.
Despite being sturdy due to his thick fur, the grooming revealed Maru’s true condition: severely malnourished and bearing the physical scars of his ordeal, including missing teeth and a diagnosis of stage-2 heartworms. However, Maru’s loving nature shines through. He was eternally grateful to be freed from the inhuman place he was forced to live. The road to recovery is long, but his caregivers are committed to providing him with all the necessary support to ensure his comfort.
