About Omelet
Omlet began when four college boys enrolled in a design school in London and realized their passion for pet products. Their mindset for creating new pet products is to provoke the question “Why hasn’t it always been done this way?”. When designing the Cardboard Cat Scratching Post, practicality and maintenance were top priorities. The team at Omlet wanted to create a cat scratcher that was engaging, but also eco-friendly. With most cat scratchers, once our feline friends have done their job, the entire cat scratcher needs to be thrown away. With this product, only the scratched part needs to be replaced. The bamboo base and steel pole will stand the test of time. Cardboard can be recycled and refills can easily be ordered. With Omlet’s Cardboard Scratching Post, your kitties can get their much-needed mental stimulation, while you contribute to a greener planet. It’s a win-win!
Overview
Pricing
Depending on the option you choose, the Omlet Cardboard Cat Scratching Post ranges from $49-$99. The most affordable option is the wall-mounted post while the tall version is the most expensive. My first thought was that it seemed expensive for a cat-scratching post. However, this design is meant to be refillable. Many, cheaper posts wear out so the whole product has to be thrown away. However, with Omlet’s scratching post, you can buy new cardboard to replace the old stack that wears out over time. This serves as a good investment and makes more financial sense. The bulk of the price tag comes from the sturdy bamboo base and steel frame.

endurance
I have 4 cats whose favorite hobby is scratching my furniture. My first thought was, “This cardboard has no chance.” To my surprise, it was very good! My cats will continue to scratch and bite the cardboard post and it still looks brand new. Plus, I was afraid there were pieces of cardboard scattered all over the house, but I haven’t seen any evidence yet.
Quality
Now, I know I made a comment about how this scratching post was on the expensive side. Also, I feel like “quality” and “cardboard” rarely go together. However, once the product arrives at your door, the quality of the scratching post justifies its price. A solid, bamboo frame paired with a steel pole means your cats can climb, jump, and scratch as much as they want and it won’t budge.
Are Cardboard Cat Scratching Posts Good Value?
Absolutely! The reduced wear and tear on our furniture alone makes this product a great addition to our home. As a veterinary technician, I also understand the importance of mental stimulation for pets. Scratching posts allow our cats to exercise their minds and release endorphins. The sturdy cardboard is great for scratching and rubbing their faces to mark their territory. I often see my cats sleeping right on the bamboo base because they are tired of socializing with it. Maintaining expensive furniture combined with healthy pet stimulation is a win in my book!
FAQ

Our Experience With Omlet
My husband and I run a small zoo with 4 cats and 3 dogs. Needless to say, our furniture has seen better days. Things in our home are put through the wringer every day. For whatever reason, we’ve luckily adopted 4 cats who spend almost every waking moment sharpening their claws on our couch, carpet, and banisters.
I’m eager to see if Omlet’s scratching post will be of interest to them. I was afraid my cats would think, “We’re having so much fun tearing up Mom’s furniture, why change our habits?”.
Fortunately, the exact opposite happened. When the box arrived, my cats became curious. I got out the materials to start assembly, and before the post was even put together, my cats were rubbing their faces on the cardboard. Good start! Assembly is straightforward. Although, I peaked at the directions to make sure I didn’t mess up. The carton has two separate wrapped stacks. The instructions advise you not to remove the wrapper until the end. However, when I slid the cardboard stacks onto the post, I had a hard time because some of the sleeves shifted so they weren’t perfectly aligned. I removed the wrapping and grabbed a few sleeves at a time to slide down the poll.
Once everything was put together, it took about 5 seconds for my cats to investigate.
Almost immediately, two of my cats, Cheddar and Cornelius, began scratching at the pole. I immediately felt relieved and realized we could get a year or two out of our furniture before replacing it. It got to the point where our dog, Annie, was accidentally trained to correct the cats when they scratched the couch. My husband and I would go to correct our cats and Annie would beat us. Our cats use the Omlet scratching post a lot, so we had to “un-train” Annie and reassure her that this product is okay to scratch. We are very happy with how energetic this product is for our cats. They all interact with it and it is now the center of their playtime together.
Conclusion
The Omlet Cardboard Cat Scratching Post is a great addition to our home. Its durable construction and eco-friendly design not only gave our cats an outlet for their natural scratching instincts but also contributed to a cleaner and more sustainable household environment. Its triangular, 3-sided design means it can accommodate multiple cats at once. The sturdy, bamboo base allows cats to roughhouse as much as they want without worrying about it falling over. This isn’t the first product I’ve had the pleasure of trying from Omlet and I’m impressed every time! My husband and I (and furniture) are happier. My cats are happier. Mission accomplished. Thanks, Omlet!
