Sora’s odyssey began more than two and a half years ago when his owner gave him up, a beginning that marked the beginning of his long vigil, waiting for a family to see the beauty in his spirit. Days turned into months, and months turned into years, with Sora watching as the world shifted around him, his hopes unwavering but his chances seemed dim. The stark reality, illuminated by a 2014 study in Applied Animal Behavior Science, reveals a world where shelter visitors often share moments of connection with just one dog, and those moments is short-lived, lasting no more than eight minutes.
However, those who knew Sora—those who walked beside him, who played with him, who saw his joy in the simple pleasure of walking or throwing a tennis ball—knew the depth of love he could give. “Sora is a high-energy dog who loves to play and is very excited any time he goes for a walk,” shared Sim Kaur from the Valley Animal Center, painting a picture of a dog whose heart knows no bounds as his energy, a perfect companion for adventures, a loyal friend to children, and a soul that only seeks love in return for his unconditional love.
