For those looking to take care of their four-legged family members, 2024 will be a great (and potentially expensive) year. With luxury fashion houses and some of the world’s most high-end design brands choosing to make dog beds, carry cases, leashes, bowls and more cut above, it’s now even more possible to invest piece for your pet that matches your own interior aesthetic.
Is that aesthetic colorful, with a playful nod to Scandinavian simplicity and functional form? If so, you’ll love the new dog collection by Danish brand Hay.
Launching today, after a preview at Hay House in Copenhagen last week that got tails wagging, the range is a collaboration with fashion and lifestyle store Holly Golightly. Its founder, Barbara Maj Husted Werner, is good friends with Hay’s co-founder Mette Hay, with the duo often meeting to walk their own dogs through the streets of Copenhagen. It was during one of these walks that the idea for Hay’s new collection was formed.
‘It’s important that the colors work for all types of dogs – male and female, different breeds, different sizes – to fit any dog’s character,’ says Hay. Just like people dress according to their personality and use fashion as a means of expression, Werner said it’s fun to give a dog a personality too. ‘Dog accessories are something you use every day. Dogs have all sorts of personal things just like any family member, so why shouldn’t they look good?’
The pieces that make up the collection, which include, ties, bowls, illustrated scarves and a bright patchwork-style dog bed (the first piece designed and one that is sure to be an instant hit) all speak to Hay and Holly Golightly’s shared love of color. There’s even a rope toy (made of braided polyester and available in two colors) that you wouldn’t expect to find lying in the middle of your living room.
It’s a fact, pet owners have never had more choice! For more stylish pet accessories, pick up the latest issue of ELLE Decoration – where you’ll also find two stories from owners who have made big design decisions to please their furry friends. Is a dedicated cat entry too far? You decide. hay.dk
